Rookie Mahkai Winston (Union, N.J./Union), who broke his own hammer throw program record yesterday, notched a PR in the shotput today with a 16th-place toss of 11.96m. ![]() Senior Jaime Tlatelpa (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) ran the second-fastest 5,000-meter time of his career to place 12th at 16:27.71 - third-fastest in program history. Freshman Josue Palau (Elizabeth, N.J./Dwyer Tech) also PRed in 800m with a time of 2:02.51 to place 16th. Some other men's Gothic Knight highlights include senior Adnan Kpodo (Irvington, N.J./Irvington), who ran the second-fastest 800-meter time in his career to place 10th out of 24 runners with a time of 2:00.59 - the seventh-fastest in program history. That was all in addition to his normal weekend workload of long jump, triple jump and javelin throw. Jackson won three events - the 100-meter dash (11.48), the long jump (6.03 meters) and the javelin throw (41.11m) - and placed second in the 400m (55.53) and discus throw (24.88m) to finish second overall and earn runner-up honors for NJCU. The decathlon is made up of 10 events and the winner is the best overall performer in the combined events. His score of 4,334 points surpassed the previous mark set two seasons ago of 3,217. Additionally, Jackson became just the second Gothic Knight in program history to compete in the decathlon, but impressed nonetheless. He clocked in a 22.08 in the 200-meter dash to place eighth, while notching that runner-up podium finish in the 400m for the sixth-fastest outdoor time (48.30) in program history. Additionally, NJCU seniors Dave Etienne (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) and Tyneil Jackson (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) each notched runner-up finishes in their respective events, Etienne in the 400-meter finals with a time of 48.30 and Jackson in the decathlon with 4,334 points.Īfter Saturday's action, today saw Etienne compete in two sprint finals.
